I've long had a fascination with "backlighting" ... having the light source come from in front of the camera. All of the "rules" state that the light should be behind or beside the photographer, but what are rules if not to break? My fascination has to do with how the camera "plays" with the light, creating gorgeous reflections, prisms, and bokeh, but still allows the photographer to properly expose the subject.
One of the hazards of being a photographer's child is that you consistently run the risk of having your photo taken. Good for me that this one doesn't usually mind my lens. I took both of these photos in July, one in 2010 and one in 2011. July must be a good month for sun around here! I like the softness caused by the light and I LOVE the reflections of light.
As much as I like these photos in color, my experimentation with backlighting has led me to love it in black and white photos:
What about you? Do you like backlit photos? Do you like sunflare? Do you like color or black and white backlit photos?
