Sweet Moses ... it's already the end of March. It's true what they say, "Time flies when you're having fun."
And we had fun this weekend. Granted, "fun" looks different now than it did when we were younger. "Fun" now is often characterized by whether we spend time with our kids on the weekend! When we were younger, it was characterized by the time we had away from them, right? I KNOW I'm not the only one that feels that way.
We spent Saturday in Tacoma watching our B-Boy swing the stick and field the ball. He has proven himself to be quite the utility player ... he can manage any of the infield positions and as of this weekend, he is the #1 hitter on his team. His numbers look great and we couldn't be more pleased with the blessings this guy is experiencing at the moment. Truthfully, baseball and numbers aside, this kid makes my heart so happy.
Do you ever have those moments when you heart registers a memory that you know you'll never forget? I had one this weekend ... it was after Game 2 on Saturday. Ben came out to talk to us before they cleaned up the field and while he and Aly were having a conversation, the setting sun was in Ben's face making his blue eyes that much more prominent. She said something and he responded with the widest, most gorgeous smile and my heart melted ... ball cap, curls peeking out, blue eyes, and huge smile ... yep, that's my boy!
We came home Saturday PM to spend time with Emily and Kyle. They arrived later than expected because they remembered plans they had previously made. We stayed up talking way too late.
But our Sunday morning brunch was filling. We woke to smells of coffee brewing and dishes clanging and came downstairs to the sight of Aly cooking. Emily and she were making apple cinnamon pancakes (that ended up being the "Little Muffins that Could"—you can bet there's a story there!). I jumped in to help make egg scrambles while Aly, our resident barista, cranked out lattes and fruit smoothies.
We are so blessed to enjoy our children the way that we do and to have them desire to spend time with us. I'm already looking forward to next weekend when they'll all be here for Easter Dinner celebrating our reason for living.
Here's to the week in between the weekends!
