In this process of planning for Emily's wedding and bridal shower, she and I have sent each other numerous links to ideas we might like to try or things we think the other would love. This cake was one such exchanged link. She first saw it used as a wedding cake with many tiers, but still tastefully and simply decorated with whipped cream and fresh fruit. It was beautiful and she suggested I just might consider baking it for the shower.
So I did. You know the old kitchen wisdom that one should never try a new recipe when expecting guests? Well, I never heed it ... and thankfully, I wasn't disappointed in the result. It was delicious and loved by everyone. Thanks, Em for the link!

EDIT: The topper is very simply made. I hand wrote "happily ever after" on notebook paper with a Sharpie, then placed it under muslin fabric to trace. I cut out the muslin sentiment, stitched it onto a rectangle of burlap, making sure the casings for the dowel rods were wide enough to fit. (Truth: I had to redo this step!) To finish it off, I removed some of the burlap strings to make a ragged edge.
