Although hamburgers and hotdogs are going to be on many menus for the July 4th celebrations across America this weekend, I thought I would offer an alternative. Perhaps at such a celebratory time, these spicy shrimp will serve better as an appetizer.
I originally got the recipe from a friend of mine several years ago, but never tried it until recently. And from then on, I couldn't stop thinking about it! These shrimp are absolutely tasty, coated with olive oil, garlic, ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes. You can simply sauté them in a pan, but I love threading them on skewers and think they look very nice to serve that way.
If you choose to use skewers, be sure to soak them in water first for about 20 minutes so that they don't burn too badly on the grill. They'll only take 5-7 minutes to cook, which is quite a bonus when you have hungry party people.
Serve up a platter and they will be gone in a matter of minutes!
Happy Weekend … and Happy Birthday, America.
