What an odd title. The two certainly don't go together without stains. But truly, the last 24 hours of my life have included both teeth AND blueberries.
The ninth day of this year's ninth month of this century's ninth year is winding down for us on the US Pacific Coast. The Labor Day holiday weekend stretched into this short week and I am, as usual, feeling like I'm catching up again! I think I should clone myself and declare the clones a Staff for myself! Yes, that sounds like a perfectly good idea. Maybe then, I should accomplish about 66% of the things My Staff and I conjure up. I call that a Deal!
My husband also needs clones … he had to work each day of this holiday weekend. Boo. We had plans to go to the lake with friends, but had to cancel them. Aly went ahead with our friends and had a lot of fun. At least, until she tangled with the wrong quad and ruts in the road, ended up flying through the air, hitting a tree with her leg, and laying quietly on the ground hoping her femur or collar bone wasn't broken. Thankfully, all was intact, and she flew kites and made pizzas later that night, but has one HECK of a bruise to brag about, Baby! It's the size of a regulation football! No kidding. I guess now we have a quad to pay for! And I will say that that is better than trying to mend a broken baby girl!
My dentist office called this morning at 7:30 and said, "We have an opening at 9 AM … wanna come get your tooth worked on?" I NEVER want my teeth worked on and if you call at 7:30 AM on any day and request that I be at your office at 9 AM, I probably am not going to be hugely cooperative! And at 9 AM on 09-09-09? I wasn't really sure about all those "NINES", but I *did* think that it would be better than going at 7 AM on 09-10-09! 9 AM on ANY day is better than 7 AM … so I said, "Sure … I'll be there." Things went fine while I was there, and after a bit of discomfort throughout the afternoon, I am feeling much better tonight. I'll sure be glad when this whole ordeal with my tooth is done. Just two more weeks … Just in time for my birthday! What better gift.
Oh my … the recipes I'd love to share with you! And ideas for school lunches! And yummy fall food … My brain just spins and I wish it wouldn't! I promise much of my brain will show up here for you, but for today? It's Blueberry Jam Sandwich Cookies.
Yes, that is what I said … say it with me s-l-o-w-l-y …
B L U E B E R R Y J A M S A N D W I C H C O O K I E S!
When I first saw this recipe, I knew I had to at least try it whether I ended up liking it or not. Blueberries and lemons together in a cookie … oh yeah, that would be good. AND it would taste like summer. In September. I can do that!
The dough should be made ahead and refrigerated. You can also make the blueberry filling ahead.
Do you know what that means? That means that you can go a while with thoughts of blueberries and lemons dancing through your head. Could life get any sweeter?
It only gets sweeter when you realize that those delectables are topped with raw sugar. So sparkly. So crunchy. So … mmm … oh, so wonderful. A stack of them is sure to make the LEAST indulgent of us swoon.
And for a single serving … on a lacy plate … (or on a napkin!) …
…try a couple with a cup of black tea. Sweetened with the same raw sugar and milk.
Really … an afternoon snack doesn't get much more fulfilling unless it is shared with someone special.
(HINT: You may try the blueberry filling in the recipe, but be forewarned that it does set up quite hard. Use it on your cookies JUST before serving them, OR you might use a store-bought blueberry jam instead. Just be aware that the jam will soak into those gorgeous butter cookies and you might wish that you had made the sandwich just before eating it! Personally, I think that any berry jam would be good on these Delectables! The kids had 'plain' delectables in their lunch today … and pronounced them Delicious!)
Perhaps we should rename the Delicious Delectables … Yes, I think Bon Appetit Magazine could've thought of that, no?
